News Drop #1 - December 6, 2024
AI moves fast, here's all the top stories from the last week!
OpenAI:
OpenAI has kicked off the first 2 days of its 12 days of OpenAI event with three major drops. GPT O1 has exited the preview phase, it now boasts improved performance and better reasoning. As a reminder, even paid users only get 50 messages per week. New fine-tuning features are entering a beta, allowing certain people even finer control of how these models behave. Finally, an all new $200 pricing tier was announced, which gives access to unlimited O1 messages, as well as a faster version.
Amazon:
Amazon has announced an all new lineup of Nova AI models, they're decent across the board but at an unbeatable price. (20% of GPT and ~60% of Gemini) Amazon seems to be finally stepping directly into the ring to take on other companies head to head.
Meta:
Meta just dropped their new version of Llama, 3.3. It has strong performance in many areas, and can be run locally with the right hardware.
Qwen:
Qwen by Alibaba released a new reasoning model called QwQ. Similar to O1 it "thinks" about its response before writing it, resulting in better performance but takes a lot longer. Interestingly QwQ is open source and can be run locally.
That's all for this week's AI news roundup!
